Locals have reported receiving unsolicited phone calls from NBN Co incorrectly advising service has commenced in their area and asking for payments to proceed with connection.
Reported call transcript:
NBN is now available in your area. Your landline and internet service will soon be disconnected. Press 1 to contact a technician to arrange payment for your connection to NBN. [Call reported to my office].
These calls are a scam.
NBN Co does not make unsolicited calls or door knock to sell broadband services. Nor does NBN Co request payment relating to medical alarms or other similar equipment.
“I’m disgusted that scammers are taking advantage, particularly of elderly Australians and their internet connections,” said Graham Perrett, Federal Member for Moreton.
“The NBN is in enough of a shambles without these scammers making matters more uncertain.
“I invite anyone in Moreton who is unsure about communications received relating to the NBN to contact my office for assistance.
